Our Walls Talk – Decorating With Plates

A few weeks ago we wrote about our love for this kitchen idea we saw on Pinterest:

We used the leftover paint from the Dumpster Dive Table and some vintage plates we found on Etsy, we recreated a smaller-scale version for our kitchen!

What we loved about this project is that we were able to accomplish our goal quickly and affordably, but there’s room add a few more plates in the future. If you want to create a similar look for your home, check out the shopping guide below – these Etsy shops are a great start.

Shopping Guide (from top to bottom, left to right):
Shabby Chic Vintage Floral Tray from Renray71
One Peachy Plate from From Lost To Found
Vintage Decorative Posey Plate from Chelsea’s Of Florida Kopico
Vintage Majolica Green Leaves and Basket Weave Plate from Gallery Botanica
Morning Glories Vintage Handpainted Porcelain Plate from Unburied Treasures
Vintage Violet Chintz Plate from Gallery Botanica
Little Sweet Pink Roses Plate from Chez K Vintage

While we were anxiously awaiting the arrival of our Etsy finds, we cut out circles to match the size of each plate and played around with the arrangement. This exercise showed us there really isn’t a way to mess this one up – we liked all of the arrangements we tried. But it did cut down on the number of holes we eventually put in the wall – a good thing because sometimes we fear our walls might crumble one day from what we’ve put them through!
You’ll also need to think about what you’ll use to hang your plates. There are a few options out there, and we used a combination of two different brands. We thought the OOK plate hangers was the best, because they were the most gentle on both the plates and the wall.
For less than $50, we think it’s a big step forward with our mission to de-modernize the kitchen!

Update: Since posting this, our kitchen plate wall has grown! Dad was a fighter pilot in the Air Force when I was really young, so we moved around a lot. Mom and Dad collected plates from all the states we lived in and are letting us borrow now! We love it when the things in our home tell stories, and our plate wall is no exception!
