Revamped

If a pair of red-soled shoes suddenly appeared on our doorstep, Gwyneth and I would be happy to give them a good home. But let’s be honest – we’d really rather have a pink-soled pair. We shopped our closet, did a quick DIY, and now we do.

If your budget can cover spraypaint and painter’s tape, then you too can revamp a pair of heels you already own in your own signature color. Here’s how we did it:

First, we found a pair of shoes that we thought might be good candidates for a little hot pink revamping.

Then Gwyneth reminded me that DIYs sometimes can be risky. “If you ruin these shoes, it is going to ruin your day?” she asked me.

Since we were pleased with how our DIY Glitter Booties turned out, and these heels were purchased three years ago at Nine West, we decided to give it a shot. We taped the shoes so only the soles were exposed and gave them a quick hit of Rust-Oleum Multi Purpose Spray Paint in Berry Pink.

We let them dry half an hour, sprayed the soles with a coat of Krylon Crystal Clear and let them dry overnight.
The next morning our nude patent pumps had a little extra punch!
Also on the DIY footwear front, we’ve recently seen two pairs that are giving me heart palpitations and making Gwyneth’s tummy rumble. I think we can create a more affordable version of these Jimmy Choo stunners:
And we’ve got a pair of black heels that have seen better days and are begging for a facelift. We think they’ll get one inspired by these beauties from Manolo Blahnik for J. Crew’s Fall 2012 collection:
We’ll keep you posted on these transformations!

  5. I LOVE the pink bottoms! I know about the reds but who does pink? Somehow I’ve missed this designer? They look fabulous! I’ve thought about cheating and doing mine red but hardly ever get to wear heels as a mommy! So you enjoy them for me, kay?

    • Hi Melody! Thanks so much! The designer of the pink soled shoes is Gwyneth :) Not sure if there’s a legitimate designer who has pink soled shoes, but it’s our signature color, so we thought we’d take some creative license :)
