We’re It!

Megan over at A Lived In Home was so thoughtful to tag us in 11 Questions! Meeting new blogger friends and seeing all of their fabulous projects is the real fun in all of this, so we’re very excited to play along!

11 Questions is simple. Here’s what you do when you’re tagged:
1. Post the rules.
2. Answer the 11 questions, then create 11 new ones for the tagged bloggers to answer.
3. Tag 11 bloggers and link to them in your post.
4. Let them know you tagged them.

Here are Megan’s questions for me and Gwyneth:

1. Whose design work do you most admire?

We just love Nate Berkus! We love him for his design philosophy of “it’s not about the money or keeping up with anyone else; it’s about the story behind [your home].” He wrote the book on how design can solve small-space challenges, making him our hero! And could he be any more adorable? Gwyneth and I may or may not have discussed a scenario where we go on his show, he falls in love with us, and we spend the rest of our lives DIY-ing together. We love you, Nate!

2. Do you prefer a kitchen with white cabinets, stained cabinets or maybe neither?

Neither. We love the look of open shelving and one day hope to have a kitchen as darling as these two are:

3. Where would your dream vacation take place?

Gwyneth and I would split up on this one. I would head straight to Bora Bora (the Hilton’s Presidential Villa doesn’t look too shabby):

And Gwyneth would be the only being on earth getting more pampered, because she’d be at her grandparents’ house in Raleigh, NC. She’d spend her days lounging in the garden, napping on every piece of furniture, getting way too many treats, sneaking “big dog” food and rolling in the grass she misses in NYC.

4. Salty or sweet foods?

We don’t discriminate over here. In fact, we prefer foods that are both salty and sweet. These Peanut Butter & Jam Bars are no joke, and they might just be the most delicious treat on earth.

5. What color do you use most often in your designs?

Pink is our neutral! There’s a coral-ish pink in our euroshams that we love and have used all over the apartment.

6. When and where in your home do you blog?

We blog in the home office in the corner of our living room. We usually blog at night, but we’re trying to be better about sleep this year. We have a “No Pinterest Past 9 pm” rule that’s helped us stop staying up until 3am pinning, planning future projects and blogging.

7. Where do you pull most of your inspiration from?

To say “most of” our inspiration would be an understatement! Almost all of our ideas have either come from or been improved by my Mom, Gwyneth’s grandmother. She’s a living, breathing Pinterest! But she’s not just our inspiration in putting together our home and outfits. She’s thoughtful, generous, kind and everything they’re talking about when they say “pretty is as pretty does.”

8. What holiday do you most enjoy decorating for?

Christmas is the only holiday we’ve really decorated for, and we had the best time filling our tiny space with big holiday spirit this year! But we are loving some of the Easter ideas we’ve seen on Pinterest, and are going to try to bring a few to life in the next week!

9. What has been your biggest design dilemma?

Hands down, lack of space! Our recent closet makeover was a life changer! But in the spirit of full disclosure, our entry and linen closets are total nightmares! Organizing one closet is kind of like wearing Spanx. The excess just gets redistributed!

Dividing the living area from the bedroom was another big challenge, but we could not be more pleased with our Expedit bookcase that we’re using as a room divider!

10. What is your best DIY project / idea?

Gwyneth and I are really happy with our Tufted Storage Ottoman. Upholstery was never something we thought we could do on our own, but we learned that where there’s a will and a staple gun, there’s a way!

11. Do you prefer to repurpose furniture of purchase new pieces?

There are some beautiful new pieces out there that we adore, but there’s nothing more gratifying than repurposing or restoring an old piece. Gwyneth and I are especially fond of repurposing pieces we find while dumpster diving. We’ve got this Dumpster Dive Find stored under the bed and can’t wait to figure out what do to with it!

Now, here are the 11 bloggers Gwyneth and I are tagging to keep the fun going! Gwyneth and I love these blogs and recommend them as high-quality reading material!

A’Dell at Are Things Complicated Yet?
Bethany at B Soup
Cassie at Hi Sugarplum!
Whitney at The Pink Elephant
Whitney and Dustin from The Rooster and The Hen

Should you choose to accept, your 11 questions are:
1. What is your go-to place for inspiration?
2. What recipe do you find yourself making over and over again?
3. If you could Pin one photo and have it magically appear in our home, what would that photo be?
4. If you didn’t live in your current city, where would you live?
5. What has been your biggest design challenge?
6. What is your favorite thing about your home?
7. Which DIY project are you most proud of?
8. What are your favorite color combinations to decorate with or wear?
9. When and where in your home do you blog?
10. Flats or heels?
11. What’s the #1 goal you want to accomplish in 2012?

Thanks again for thinking of us, Megan!

  1. Such fun q&a! I ran mine last week! Thanks for the tag! :)

    • AGGH! How did we miss that? I think we must have been distracted with your bookcases!! Glad we’ve caught up now. And we are very envious of your “No level or measure necessary” skills!

      xoxo,
      mk & Little G

  2. 3 am on pinterest?! Girlfriend, you got the craze bad! I like your 9 pm rule though. I find that hours slip by as well when I’m pinning. Loving your tufted ottoman. Animal print is so fun! Thanks for playing! :) Can I go to Bora Bora with you? We can ride it off as a blogger meet up.

    • Yes, it got bad when we first found Pinterest! Thank you for the sweet words on the ottoman, and thank you for including us! This was so fun! You may definitely come along to Bora Bora – I like this blogger meet up justification!

      xoxo,
      mk & Gwynnie

  3. Thanks, for tagging me m&g! Your answers are too fun, love your neutral and such sweet inspiration! :) I remember first seeing your bookcase…IMPRESSED!

  4. Your dumpster dive find… at first glance, I thought coat them with something to protect them from the weather, place them strategically outdoors, and front with climbing flowers like clematis or morning glories.

    • Kathleen, that idea is brilliant! The headboard / footboard would be perfect in a garden. Sadly, we have no outdoor space in our NYC apartment :( Great view, but that’s about it! Maybe one day!!

      xoxo,
      mk & Gwynnie

  5. Enjoyed learning a little more about you and Gwyneth. Can’t wait to see what you do with that iron bed frame you found, Thanks for the questions and I’ll share my answers soon!

  6. Ha! Love your comment about closets and Spanx! Also love your dumpster dive find…can’t wait to see what you do.
