The Domino Effect

When we saw “very Domino” comments on our entry in Apartment Therapy’s 2012 Small Cool Contest, we stopped checking our standing in the contest completely – those words alone were enough of a prize. (LucyTea and FarmingMan, we don’t know who you are, but your comments kinda-sorta-totally made our April!)

And if you read our post last week, we OD’d on inspiration when we flipped through Domino’s Special Edition “Quick Fixes.” Well, now that we’ve spent a little more time with it, we’ve got longer “future project” and wish lists.

See? To warn those who have not picked up a copy yet, many of the images are ones you’ve seen before in past editions of the magazine and The Domino Book of Decorating. But the way these images were presented made us think about the images we’ve all been pinning in new ways.

And today, One King’s Lane is making it easy and affordable to bring these ideas into your home. We’ve only seen a preview of the sale inspired by Quick Fixes, but we’re already loving the ideas for decorating with wallpaper, mirrors, books and plates! We’ll walk you through what we’re loving for each of these. You’ve got some scrolling ahead of you, but this eye candy is worth it!

Let’s start with wallpaper. Remember this stunning entryway from the book?

And Quick Fixes featured this gorgeous watercolor wallpaper in a home office:

Not to worry if you’re ready to start wallpapering, but you’re renters like we are. Domino has a few ideas so renters and commitment-phobes can get in on the trend. Like this one – wallpaper framed as art:

The next image is actually an upholstered wall, but Gwyneth and I think it screams DIY wallpaper headboard project. (Not for us, though – we just finished changing ours up!)

While there isn’t a new headboard project in our future, there is certainly a wallpaper project ahead of us. We are head-over-heels in love with this wallpaper One King’s Lane has included in their sale!

Lots of opportunities for this gorgeous paper, but we’re leaning towards a screen DIY based on this Domino photo:

Where will the proposed screen go in our apartment? We have no idea. (Right now the screen is stored under the couch.) But Gwyneth and I usually take a find-me-a-good-idea, we’ll-find-you-a-home-for-it approach!

Next up, mirrors. As we all know, mirrors help maximize space in tiny rooms, and Domino’s shared the best of the best over the years – including the inspiration photo for our entryway:

But what about adding a statement mirror to a gallery wall like this gorgeous living room?

How do you feel about this One King’s Lane stunner…

 …here on our gallery wall?

Decorating with books is another Domino hallmark trend that Gwyneth and I are big believers in. This (probably most-pinned Ikea Expedit image ever) was our inspiration when we purchased and styled our room divider:

And we’ve got books tucked away in just about every other corner of our studio too:

So it’s only natural that we add these pink books from One King’s Lane to our library.

Lastly, we’ve gotten a few new ideas for decorating with plates. While we’ve kept ours in the kitchen…

…Domino proves plates can work in unexpected places too. Like a hallway:

Or even in a bathroom:

If the collection above is talkin’ to you, then you’ll love these available in today’s sale:

Don’t want to put any more holes in the wall? We think these would also work great as trays and dishes on a side table, console or bookshelf!

The wallpaper, mirrors, books and plates ideas are all pretty genius, but Quick Fixes had one final suggestion for adding personality to your home:

And we think this one might just be their best one ever.

xoxo,
mk & Gwyneth
