When Gwyneth and I saw a couple pull down the back door of their U-Haul, and place this chest next to the dumpster, part of me wanted to run after them and convince them they could definitely find space for it in their new home. Another part of me wanted to tell them that they were double parked and should move along. No decision necessary. The couple drove away, and 5 minutes later Gwyneth was striking a pose in front of her find.
Once we gathered our supplies, I took the chest apart while Gwyneth supervised.
…for both of us.
There were a few damaged areas on our chest, so we repaired them with wood filler.
With some easy reassembly the next morning, we turned our Dumpster Dive chest into a new piece that does double duty as a nightstand and linen closet!
We have reached capacity and think storage might be the best answer. But if you’ve taken our Apartment Tourand have another suggestion, you know we’re dying to hear it!

love it! and what a cheery color. i vote put the “old” nightstand in the bathroom if you need extra storage or a place for towels/soaps orrr near the window in your living room (by the heater) and put plants on it.
Thank you! Such a great ideas for the nightstand placement. I think the bathroom might be a little tight, but I am going to give it a try tonight. Next to the heater will definitely work! Thank you again!

Love that green! Of course, Gwyneth, is absolutely adorable too
.
Great job!
I love finding things for free. Then I feel I can take risks and if things don’t turn out the way I anticipate it’s okay ’cause I don’t have a lot of money at steak. Your table is BEAUTIFUL!!
I love what you’ve done with your dumpster dive find! And the lined drawer inside is perfect. So glad you added a touch of pink …
And Gwyneth is such a good helper!

How do you spray paint inside and not have splatters all over the place? You’re amazing, and have the Midas touch, that’s for sure!
We don’t know about the Midas Touch, but we do know we’ve got a can of Krylon Metallic Gold spray paint handy at all times!
Our spray painting technique is probably not the best, but it’s the best we’ve come up with so far…we open our big window and cover nearby surfaces with craft paper & drop cloths before we get going. We’ll pull the biggest box we can find out of the recycling and put whatever we’re painting inside to contain any splatters. Then Gwyneth gets an extra long walk while the project dries, and the apartment is airing out. We’re sure there’s a better way, but haven’t found one yet. If you can think of one, please let us know! (Although Gwyneth really likes the long walks that come with our current method!)
