Pants designed by one of the most iconic women’s fashion designers in the world. Heels spray painted by an optimist and a Yorkie in a cardboard box. This is how Gwyneth and I do high/low style. And now that we’ve got our own copy of I Spy DIY Style, we’re sure to have a few new ideas to throw into the mix soon.

Gwyneth and I have been following and loving Jenni Radosevich’s blog, I Spy DIY, for a while. She takes everything you learned about fashion from watching The Devil Wears Prada and proves it wrong. She proves that fashion can, in fact, be friendly, accessible and affordable. (Side note: we mean no disrespect to The Devil Wears Prada. It will forever be a favorite of ours!)

So meeting Jenni at the launch party for her new book, I Spy DIY Style, was a true treat! I just barely remembered my manners and started with a “congratulations” before begging for details on when she’d be posting a tutorial for the skirt she was wearing.

Jenny and host Coach definitely know how to throw a party for those of us who love to create. With a variety of stations, they had ways for us to get a DIY fix – even before we all got home with our new books. I made a custom bookmark, and with a few easy steps, you can too. We’ll definitely be making a few more – these would make fantastic small gifts.

1. Cut fringe on a 2″ x 6″ piece of leather.
2. Use a little glue at the end of the fringe to attach a 4″ leather cord and roll it up fringe to create a tassel.
3. Punch a hole in a 1″ x 4″ piece of leather and tie a knot on the other side.
4. Bookmark the first project you want to work on.
Downstairs, even the cocktails and treats could be personalized. Here’s one you’ll want to keep on hand for any summer parties you might be throwing: Check out this ice cream sandwich a fellow DIY- er made!
As you can imagine, being surrounded by all of this and other style DIY-ers wearing their latest creations was a heaping serving of inspiration. On the way out, I spotted this beauty:
…and now feel a DIY for my ivory leather jewelry box coming on!
Back home, Gwyneth was ready to hear all about the event, so we curled up on the couch to start reading together. And that’s where we discovered that her Jenni’s inspiration comes from the exact same place ours does:
…and it made us love her even more.
A huge thank you to Jenni and Coach for an inspiration-packed evening!
xoxo,
mk & Gwynnie

The DVF pants look amazing on you. May I please know if you got them true to size or did you go a size down?

  4. That Python jewelry box is fabulous, does anyone have ANY idea where to find one? Preferably embossed

    • Hi Rachel! The python jewelry box is from Coach! I know they sell them in stores! But Pottery Barn also has a line of jewelry boxes in a variety of sizes – I have the medium-sized one and love it! Good luck!
