A few weeks ago, Gwyneth and I shared our love for studded sandals. Naturally, the Balenciaga Rope Studded Wedges immediately occupied the top spot on our wishlist. But at $935, they really put the wish in wishlist. So we decided to shop our closet and DIY them instead.
We held off on posting this tutorial until we were sure they’d survive pounding the very hot pavement in NYC, and we’re pleased to report they have! So if you love accessorizing accessories as much as we do, here’s the how-to.
You need:
- A pair of sandals (We used our Mossimo Perri Wedges from Target.)
- Small rhinestones (We used leftovers from last month’s Letter K.)
- Nail polish (We used Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos and e.l.f.’s Desert Haze.)
- Crazy glue
Paint your rhinestones with two coats of polish.
Once dry, glue them on with crazy glue. That’s it!
Gwyneth and I were on a roll, so decided to customize our Capped Toe Flats from The Webster for Target in three easy steps you can probably guess.
First, we taped off the caps.
Then we gave them two coats of the Krylon Metallic Brass Spray Paint we had left over from our Expedit Overlays.
And then we wore them.
How easy was that?

Thanks, B! We need to block off some fashion DIY time for when you are up here for Blog Her. Specifically that amazing clutch you blogged about last week.

PS to everyone else: if you have not checked out Bethany’s blog yet, you need to go to http://bsoup.blogspot.com/ for some fantastic fashion DIY inspirations!
I’ve been thinking about spraypainting some heels recently! How do you find it is holding up? Did you use a primer or anything? Love the gold toe! xx
Anna (My Design Ethos)
Hi Anna! They are holding up great! I did not spray them with a coat of Crystal Clear after the spray paint (I’m out), but I bet one coat of that would seal them better. But so far, I’ve worn the flats out (maybe 5 times), and they are in the same condition as the day we made them! If you end up making a pair for yourself, please send us a photo of your finished product, so we can share on our Facebook page!
Happy (almost) weekend!

Good luck! Unless there’s another reader out there who shows up as “Anonymous” and signs off their comments with “ME,” we cannot wait to see them in person next week! (And we are going to fix this Anonymous situation!) Love you, Mom!
