Good morning, ladies; good morning, Dad!
Boy are ya’ll in for a treat today! Gwyneth and I have Dominique from Comfy Cozy Couture here with us today to share her thoughts on the relationship between personal style at home and in the closet, and she’s sharing her top splurges and steals for the home and closet too!
I’m drooling over the projects Dominique and her husband have been up to for their new home, and Gwyneth can’t stop talking about this adorable pup:
So enough from us, let’s hear it from this fashionista turned domestic goddess herself!
What inspired you to start blogging?
I wish I had a really awesome reason, but I decided to start blogging when the Mr. and I moved to Florida about 2 years ago. It was the first time I’d lived so far from “home,” and I thought, ‘hey, this would be a great way to stay connected to everyone.’ To be totally honest, I thought a few family members and a couple of my friends would read it, and that was it – if I was lucky! But much to my delight, I actually have followers who aren’t my family, and it has become such a creative outlet for me!
FYI, Dominique, Gwyneth and I think your inspiration to start blogging is pretty awesome!

What’s the meaning behind Comfy Cozy Couture?
Names are so hard to come up with, right? We had just purchased our new house, and I was trying to come up with the blog name at the same time. The words comfy, cozy and couture perfectly described the feel I wanted to create in our new space, and the name just kind of stuck! I mean, who doesn’t want a home that is comfortable, relaxing and has a collection of ‘couture’ and vintage pieces…no one that I want to be friends with! Ha!

How would you describe your personal style?
Oh this is a good one, but so hard! I feel, like there are SO many styles out there that it’s difficult to narrow it down to just one…I love a classic mix of textures and patters when I am getting dressed, and I am definitely a TOTAL girly girl. If I could wear a flirty and feminine dress every day, I absolutely would. They say the first step in addiction is admitting you have a problem, right? Well, I have a dress obsession; it’s kind of a joke when I am out shopping because it is inevitable that I will pick up one or five…But if I am not in a dress, you can find me wearing a blousy silk shirt, skinny jeans, statement jewelry and super-chic shoes!

Do you see similarities between the way you dress and the way you decorate?
Ummm, do identical twins look alike? Yes, yes and yes…If you think about it, the same clean lines you love on a piece of furniture can be translated to a pair of skinny jeans. I love gorgeous and functional pieces…I don’t want a beautiful sofa that is uncomfortable to sit on any more than I want a pair of pumps that are going to make my feet hurt for days no matter how much they cost. In my home, I love a good mix of different eras, different styles and different colors. My favorites lately include polka dots, gold details, neon hues and bold graphic prints in my closet and my home decor.
What are your favorite steals for the closet and home?
For the closet I am currently obsessed with Asos, H&M, The Outnet, TopShop, Dorothy Perkins (a recent find) and Ebay! You can seriously find ANYTHING on Ebay…for a fraction of the price, so it has become my newest go-to online source! Last but not least, for wallet-friendly jewels I love Forever 21, Bauble Bar and Etsy.
For the home, you can find me at my local ReStore, TJ Maxx / Homegoods and any little hole in the wall thrift store or antique shop. I am all about the thrill of the hunt…I could walk around an antique mall for umpteen hours and love every minute of it! They are hands down the BEST places to find one-of-a kind pieces for your home. It’s all about balance, though…high and low pieces whether it is for your closet or home! Oh and One Kings Lance can do no wrong in my eyes!
How about the splurges?
I love expensive things…it’s kind of a problem, but it is totally my Mom’s fault, or so I like to tell myself! But I think it all started when I was a baby, and I would ONLY take naps if I was lying on my Mom’s mink fur coat, and well…the rest is history! Okay, okay, back to the point! If I could splurge on a handbag, I would run to the closest Louis Vuitton store or scoop up the ever-so-stunning Celine bag! For clothes I love Neiman Marcus, Rachel Roy, Anthropologie (slight obsession), Equipment Blouses, Alice + OLivia, Tibi, DvF and Milly – to name a few!

Who are your style icons?
I’m not sure if I really have a style icon…I don’t stalk a particular celeb and try to dress like them, but ther eare a lot of women that I think have impeccable style and taste. For example, Blake Lively or Olivia Palermo. These two women always look stunning whether they are frolicking in high style around the city or walking the red carpet. Oh, and I give made props to Anna Dello Russo…I love that she is fearless when it comes to fashion! She can rock ANYTHING and look fabulous and fresh!
If you had an unlimited decorating budget, which room would you focus on, and what would you do?
Can I pick three rooms instead, because I can’t choose between the kitchen, living room and my husband’s MAN room! I mean, you did say the budget was unlimited right? Top choice would be our kitchen, which is next on our project list. We recently moved back to North Carolina, and the kitchen in our new home is fugly…if you know what I’m saying. Just picture horrid vinyl floors, hunter green laminate countertops and burgundy walls. Yeah, not exactly my idea of our dream kitchen, which you can read about here! Thank the Lord the cabinets are great quality maple, but they are totally not our style.
I have it all planned out in my head. Pale mint green walls, painted white cabinets with brass or lucite hardware, carrerra marble countertops, white subway tile backsplash, a butcher-block countertop for the island, pendant lights, new hardwood floors and an apron-front sink and TAAA-DAHH, one stunning and gorgeous kitchen! Easy peezy…

Which DIY project are you most proud of?
Hmmm, at first thought, I would say my DIY Chevron Rug project, which you can read about here! But most recently, I am dying over how my Dorothy Draper Nightstand makeover is coming along…and it is SUPER easy to do!
Any projects on the horizon we can get a sneak peek of?
Of course! If you follow Comfy Cozy Couture, you know I am in the middle of our master bedroom makeover! I am finally making some progress…the custom upholstered bed and bedding arrived, you know the DIY Dorothy Draper nightstand project is underway, and we (and by we, I mean the Mr.) hung our new chandelier! It might be my favorite part of the room so far…I seriously get weak in the knees every time I look at it. So lucky for you, none of these have debuted on the blog yet, so I would love to share!
You know you’re going to want to see this master bedroom makeover when it’s finished! Make sure to stay up to date by following Dominique’s blog, Comfy Cozy Couture!
Dominique, thank you so much for being with us today – it’s definitely a more stylish day because you were a part of it!
