Sweet Meets Street – 2 Ways to Update a Lace Skirt

It’s been published so many times that by now, each item on the list of “Wardrobe Essentials” has probably been hanging in your closet for a while. So if you’re experiencing symptoms of Basics Boredom, Shopping in Your Closet is our recommended cure. (Side note: DIY is another remedy, and you can find a few of our favorite solutions here, here and here.)

Today’s basic in need of an update – the lace skirt. I’ve paired this number with crewneck cashmere sweaters and slingbacks since I bought it with my employee discount from J. Crew. For context, I worked at J. Crew part-time in college, fourteen years ago. Upon hearing this, Gwyneth first gave me the “Mommy, you are so old” look, and then she suggested we take this oldie but goodie from reserved to rocker. And because I am a puppy training failure, doing pretty much whatever Gwyneth tells me to, I headed to the closet to put together these two looks for her and for you too:

Shopping Guide:
Cat Eye Sunglasses from Old Navy (old, similar style at Urban Outfitters)
Chevron Drop Earrings from BaubleBar
Mercer V-neck Tee from Gap
Lace Skirt from J. Crew (old, but similar style at Stylebop)
Chain Link Bag from J. Crew (old, but similar style at DSW)
Isaac Mizrahi Heels (old, but similar style at 6pm)
Stylenomics Essie Nail Polish (on toes) from Nordstrom

Shopping Guide:
Haute Hippie Leather Jacket from Gena Chandler

While we’re talking updates…Gwyneth, the reigning “Best Hair” award winner in our zip code, mentioned she was getting a little tired of looking at my same ‘do day after day. Thanks to Amika, we’re switching it up with their  Tourmaline Curler. We’ll be trying and sharing more looks soon, but in the meantime you’ll have to take our word for it – this one is a life changer.

Shopping Guide:
Rhinestone Stud Bracelet from Forever 21
Metallic Triple Wrap Tassel Bracelet from Emily Kammeyer Accessories
So, So Stellar ImPRESS Press-On Manicure with Catsuit Kiss Nail Dress c/o Broadway Nails (available at Walgreens)
Classic Pave Chain Link Bracelet from J. Crew
Gold and Diamond Heart Ring (old, similar style at My Wardrobe)
Gold and Diamond Clover Ring (old, similar style at Net-a-Porter)
Rose Gold Filled Knuckle Ring from GLAMROCKSdesign

Lastly, a reminder that our Broadway Nails Manicure giveaway closes tomorrow at midnight! We have the best time creating custom manis with goodies from Impress and Kiss, and want you to experience for yourself! Here’s where to enter!
