The New Yorkies’ 7 Step Guide To Hurricane Survival

Step 1: Skip the grocery store rush and shoot outfits instead. When the weather report predicts several days of rain and God-only-knows-how-many days without power, you need to take advantage of clear skies and working outlets for your hair appliances.

(So when you’re reading the posts we’ve prepared for you later this week, please know that the real OOTDs consist of leggings, a hoodie and bunny slippers. The hair path prediction is uncertain.)

Step 2: The windows of your building being taped and boarded are signs that you should stop shooting your ensembles and start assembling your emergency supply kit.

Step 3: If you’ve shopped at H&M on a Saturday, you have all the skills you need to brave shopping for any emergency supplies that you lack. Wear comfortable clothing. Stay on the offense. Keep your energy up. (Put your new cooler to good use while the checkout line isn’t moving.)

Step 4: Stock cooler with the fruits, veggies and dairy items that will spoil when the power goes out. Pause and stare at cooler’s contents – fantasizing about the way your skinny jeans would fit, should you actually have to live off cooler for a week.

Step 5: Pack clothing, pet items and essential non-perishables.

Step 6: Evacuate apartment. Take a long look and say a longer prayer that your place looks the same when you return.

Step 7: Seek shelter with friends who make the entire event feel more like vacation than a natural disaster. Being in the safety zone is an extra perk.

As you can see, Gwyneth and I are in very good hands. We’ve got enough food, entertainment and love to last us through the Winter. We’re secretly hoping it does. A tremendous thanks to the thoughtful friends who took us in and to y’all for checking in on us over the weekend!  We hope ya’ll stay safe and dry out there!

xoxo,

mk & Gwynnie

  10. LOL. Love #4. I have a fridge stocked full of healthy food (for the skinny jeans reason), but no power to keep said fridge running. Luckily its been cold enough in Cleveland that the fruit and veggies should survive until we get it back, which I’m being told may be Friday. Waaaaahhhh. I’m still hoping it back on when I get home!

Glad you and Gwyneth made it unscathed!
