Gwyneth and I are delighted to finally be finished unpacking boxes from our big move, and over the next few days we’ll share how we’ve set up our new place! As you’ll see in today’s post and the ones that follow, we experimented with using our NYC furniture in new ways so our North Carolina space would feel different and special, but we’d still be surrounded with the things that we love.
We’re starting with our favorite part today – our Expedit bookcase from Ikea! In NYC we used the bookcase as a room divider and for some much needed storage, but because we actually have more closet space and a bedroom with a door in our new space, we got to have even more fun styling it. Here’s where we netted out!
The three frames hanging above the Expedit are also Ikea goodies. They’re the Large Ribba Frame, and we used scrapbook paper in three coordinating patterns for some extra-affordable art. We love how the neutral colors add a little dimension without being too busy with everything else we have going on. (Leopard and gold giraffe prints are neutrals; don’t ever forget it!)
In NYC, the Knipsa Baskets held clothing that didn’t fit in our tiny closet, but now that we have a proper walk in (hallelujah), we’re using them to store supplies for the projects we have on the horizon. (Or more accurately put, the fifty projects we’ve started and need to finish!)
And speaking of unfinished projects, one five minute improvement we can’t seem to get around to making is to create small backers for inside the baskets, so each has a consistent front. (For now, you’re getting a glimpse at the piles of sewing projects we’re sweet talking my Mom into helping us with.) In addition to the backers for the baskets, our “NC Home Improvement” list has several other five minute to-do’s that we’d love to have finished before sharing photos with you. But we’re keeping it real here and sharing our space, endless imperfections and all. We can’t hold it in any longer; and more importantly, if we waited until it was finished, we’d be waiting forever!
Another item on “The List” is to address the right end of the bookcase. When we used the Expedit as a room divider in our NYC apartment, only one of the ends was exposed. Now that you can see both ends, we’re thinking we should pick up a few more overlays from My Overlays, give them a shot of the same Krylon Metallic Spray Paint and add them to the other side. Don’t you think?
We kept the same mini vignette we had in NYC with our Pottery Barn ceramic bird, The Domino Book of Decorating and Design Sponge at Home. Partly because we love mixing pretty hardcover books and home accessories, but mainly because we reference these two reads almost daily.
To the left of the bookcase, we have two of our other favorite finds for the home – our Ram Head from Z Gallerie (a must-have home accessory for any UNC fan!) and our I Believe In Pink Print from Etsy.
That’s all for now, but we can’t wait to share the rest of our new space with you! Stay tuned for more coming later this week!
But in the meantime, don’t you agree Gwyneth deserves a few extra treats for all her unpacking and decorating?
