{Room Reveal} DIY-Filled Home Office Some Really Big News!

This weekend Gwyneth and I put the finishing touches on the DIY-Filled Home Office we took on as our May Design Challenge. Yes, we realize its June 10th, so were a bit tardy to the party. But along with our home office project we had another development keeping us busy last month A development that also wrapped up late last week, so were pretty psyched to share that update with you today too!

But first, heres how our home office turned out! (For those of you who are new, you can see the before when it was our Cottage Guest Room here.)

DIY Filled Home Office

We picked up our desk from Target a few years ago, and although they dont make the exact same model today, their Avington Desk is practically identical. Any time we can add a small customization for under $10 and 2 minutes is a win in our book, so we replaced the original hardware with Anthropologies Dotted Zinnia Knob. (Shown in one of the photos below).

Our chair is the Macau Arm Chair from Ballard Designs. If youre looking for an office chair that doesnt look like an office chair but is still comfortable enough to get you through a serious pinning marathon, we cant recommend it highly enough.

The pendant is Ikeas Maskros, an addition we recently picked up as our prize from our Dumpster Dive Dresser With Hutch winning Ikeas DIY Contest last year.

The chevron rug is from Urban Outfitters. And weve definitely gotten our $89.00 worth with this find! It was in the living room of our NYC Apartment, and were so thrilled with how its held up over the years, even after being thrown in the wash a few million times.

Dumpster Dive Dresser With My Overlays

Youll recognize our Dumpster Dive Dresser that recently got a makeover with My Overlays, so when our pinning marathons give us the urgent need to make something, all our DIY supplies are at our fingertips. In the back corner we have one of the Dumpster Dive Slipper Chairs that we reupholstered earlier this year (but have yet to finish the second one and share the tutorial.)

Behind our desk is another Dumpster Dive find that we repurposed for a new use. In NYC we used it as a bookcase, but by turning it on its side, its now home to all the things one generally needs when at their desks like the printer, important files and and a giant hurricane filled with nail polish.

DIY Filled Home Office

The gold dipped bowl is part of the Nate Berkus Collection for Target and something that somehow found its way into our cart the last time we went to buy paper towels and toothpaste. And our DIY Ombre Paint Chip Calendar keeps us on track and gave us a new use for the mountain of paint chips we tend to collect.

Bookcase as Console in Home Office

Polka dotted baskets from Target hold our USB drives and power cords (Heres a similar one available online, but we found ours in the dollar section at our local store), and our Critter Storage Jar is another quick and easy DIY were putting to good use for supply storage.

Across from the desk is a white wicker loveseat we borrowed from my Mom because Gwyneth needed a good place to sleep while I work.

She also does a great deal of supervising from this spot.

White Wicker Love Seat In Home Office

By now yall have all seen and purchased the Monogrammed Mugs from Anthropologie. And like the rest of yall, were not using ours for coffee either.

Anthropologie Monogram Cup As Desk Accessory

Were both wincing as we type this, because this pillow is the only thing in two years of blogging thats gotten us some hate mailBut the cross-stitched pillow with Kate Moss famous quote was a DIY my Mom did for us last year, despite the fact that she vehemently disagrees with what it says. Were currently making another cross-stitched lumbar pillow from the How to Make a Custom Cross-Stitch Pattern Using Excel that we shared last week. We had hoped to have it finished to share today, but we grossly underestimated how long it takes to cross-stitch! Its looking pretty good so far, but its definitely testing our patience and eyesight!

And in the back corner, weve got a few more DIYs. Our Union Jack Trunk is hiding the eyesore known as projects-halfway-started. And case you dont think we have enough seating already, we have our DIY Anthropologie Inspired Chair. We used the bookcase as the hutch for our Dumpster Dive Dresser With Hutch in NYC, but now weve put the feet back on and are using it as a media center.

So what are we going to do now that we have our office all set up? Were going to get to work. In San Francisco.

Meredith And Gwyneth On The Move

No joke were taking the office apart and packing it up. Go figure just as we were placing accessories late last week, Gwyneth and I got the call from a San Francisco advertising agency that Id been speaking withthey made me an offer, and I accepted! So were making trips back and forth to the attic for all our boxes and bubble wrap and headed out West in TWO WEEKS! So very fast, so well have to start getting excited about decorating another small apartment just as soon as we stop panicking about how were going to pack up our stuff and find an apartment in a city we know very little about! (If you know San Francisco and have any suggestions, please email us! And if youre in Raleigh and have the urge to pack a box or 40, feel free to come on over no notice necessary!)

We know your hearts will go on if we get caught up packing and cant find as much time to post, but were not sure ours will! Hearing from yall is always the best part of our day, so were going to try to stay in touch here. But if all else fails, theres always time for Instagram! OK, back to the packing!

xoxo,

mk & Gwyneth (The New Yorkies?!??)

  17. Welcome to the West Coast! I live in the central valley of California, and I have a settee in my sewing room so my two dogs can sleep and supervise while I sew. My youngest daughter works in San Francisco but lives in Oakland for its affordability. Theres good public transit in the area.

  18. I am so happy and excited for you two! San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. Your office is incredible and so well thought out. Good luck and hope you will keep blogging about this new chapter in your life.

  19. Love the office, Meredith! So many creative and beautiful thinkgs. I have my eye on the paint chip calender. Such a cute idea.

Wonderful news about San Francisco! It sounds as though you and Gwyneth are the traveling duo, off to more adventures!

  20. Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! First things first the office looks/looked FABULOUS! More importantly, CONGRATULATIONS. I am so super duper excited for you, friend. Now, be sure to drive right through St. Louis so we can catch up, even if only over a quick cup of coffee. Fingers crossed. Hugs!

  21. What a cute apartment! My daughter lives in SF since she went to college there. She graduated in 2004 and never left. First of all, youll be shocked at apartment prices! She has a home in Glen Park. The best, least foggy weather is away from the coast. My favorite neighborhoods are Noe Valley, Glen park, Pacific Heights, Hayes Valley, Alamo Square. Of course you pay more for the nice areas! Good Luck!

  22. Holy Hathor! If thats the new reality, I dont want any part of it! I just cannot imagine (at my age, admittedly turning 62 in August, sigh, and while I feel perpetually 18 inside well, the body just aint agreein these days) I just cannot begin to imagine picking up and moving to California for a JOB OFFER. Especially when you have to take down and box up everything you worked so hard to put together. It was so pretty, just loved all of your unique touches. I find your style quite appealing, hard to put a finger on it but its cozy and yet cool at the same time. Hard to achieve. Are you like a 12 year old genius?

  23. So jealous of your space! I love it! Id love for you to come link this up at the Weekly Creative Link Party that just went live this morning!
