It’s definitely still a work in progress, but Gwyneth and I made some good headway on decorating the bedroom in our San Francisco apartment this past weekend! (If you’re catching up, here’s where you can check out the entryway, living room and kitchen.) There are so many things we love about our new space, but that our bedroom is its own separate room (with a door!) tops the list! That we can’t see the dishes in the sink from the bed already makes it feel like a true retreat!
You’ll notice that most of the things we’re using in the space are things from our NYC Apartment, but we did make a few changes and added a few new elements. Paint is our favorite way to make a quick change on a budget, so we decided to paint the walls a lighter shade of our favorite color. We settled on Sherwin Williams’ Alyssum.
While we were in the business of man repelling, we decided to add a few more decorative pillows to the bed – the five we had before just didn’t feel sufficient. So we added our DIY Dorothy Perkins Cross-Stitch Pillow in front and an oversized blue floral lumbar pillow behind the bolster. The blue floral lumbar was something we made when we were on vacation in North Carolina the week before we moved to San Francisco. We’re missing borrowing my Mom’s sewing machine, and a Bernina is at the top of this year’s Christmas list. Come New Years, the pillow count count definitely rise!
We’re using our Dumpster Dive Chest of Drawers from NYC as a nightstand and are in love with the new set up thanks to a few housewarming gifts we received last week. Thank you, Mom for the beautiful Audrey Frameless Mirror from Ballard Designs and for the “Let Them Eat Cake” vase from Anthropologie!
If there’s a piece of furniture that has nine lives, it would be our Dumpster Dive Dresser and Hutch. We originally used it in the bedroom in NYC, then we updated the panels with My Overlays for our home office in North Carolina, and now it’s back in the bedroom. Since we’re using it to store items like undergarments, socks and tights, we decided to add white craft paper behind each of the panels. Athletic socks just weren’t the decorative touch we were going for here!
Unlike our Dumpster Dive Dresser, there’s one piece of furniture that has not been very functional for us so far – Gwyneth’s Jax and Bones dogbed. Since Gwyneth gets to come to work with me here, we decided to take her old bed to the office and pick up a new one for home. Unfortunately, she’s not making the most of it right now…
…Gwyneth says she’s much more comfortable up here. Must be all the pillows.
That’s the bedroom for now! We’re saving our pennies and hoping to add the York Tufted Headboard from Pottery Barn soon!

Update: We purchased our headboard and are so in love with how it works in our space!
