If you saw last month’s post with the first look at our San Francisco apartment, then you know that the area of our apartment intended for dining is too small to fit a table and chairs. So Gwyneth and I decided to do what any reasonable person would do in this situation – use the area meant for eating as one suited for drinking instead.
As you can see, our Dumpster Dive Dresser isn’t the only piece of furniture with more than a few lives. Our new bar (another dumpster dive delight) was our nightstand in NYC, an entryway chest in North Carolina and now a bar cart in San Francisco.
The framed cocktail illustrations are from Brooklyn artist, Julia Himmel. Not only are they decorative, they’re also great inspiration for cocktail hour concoctions.
We’re using our Diane Von Furstenberg trays to keep
our my favorite beverages and mixers organized. Neither the large chain link tray nor the gold round tray are currently available, but if you’ve got to have one for yourself, keep an eye on Ebay. There are tons of listings for discontinued DvF home accessories.
Our friends at Erie Drive sent us some beautiful Gold Glazed Dauville Pebble Nesting Bowls as a housewarming gift, perfectly sized for happy hour snacks like olives and nuts. And since our cocktail glasses are tiny (snacks + tiny glasses = good hangover prevention), we cut our striped straws from Target in half and used an extra votive holder to contain them on the tray.
The straws are perfectly sized for one of our favorite happy hour treats – Mini 187 ml cans of Sofia Sparkling Wine. The cans do come with a straw of their own, but we thought the striped ones were even more charming.
We’re using the top drawer of the chest to store extra entertaining essentials like the fancy corkscrew, the backup corkscrew (every former and over 21 Girl Scout knows to always be prepared when it comes to wine) coasters, cheese spreaders, a can of mixed nuts, extra snack dishes (also from the Dauville Pebble collection, thanks to Erie Drive) and an arsenal of cute cocktail napkins, because spills happen.
When we used the chest as a nightstand in NYC, we lined the top drawer with leftover fabric from the coral floral Euroshams we have in our bedroom. But we used that fabric as the backer to our Custom Cross Stitch Pillow (as seen here), so we decided to line the drawer with a few pieces of pretty scrapbook paper instead. And our DIY cookie sheet tray keeps this drawer from being total chaos.
We’re pretty pleased with how our cocktail corner turned out! Now for something you can toast to – our friends at Erie Drive are having a summer blowout event, with lots of charming home accessories 25 – 40% off through August 12th! We’re celebrating the event with a Maker’s Mark and Ginger Ale cocktail.
