Welcome to Meredith & Gwyneth, the New Yorkie! We are so glad you’re here!
This blog is a story of personal style and combines decorating & DIY-ing with great finds in and for the closet. For us, decorating and getting dressed go hand-in-hand because our approach to each is the same: Only use what you love, pile on the accessories, never fear color or pattern, and mix them liberally!
This blog began as the story of our adventures in making New York City feel like home. When we moved from Raleigh, North Carolina in February of 2011, we didn’t think NYC would ever feel that way. In fact, we missed the life we’d made in North Carolina so badly that after three months in New York, I quit my job, packed up the apartment and made arrangements to move back home. With the apartment back in boxes, we were somehow inspired to give NYC another shot. Without a job, we had some time on our hands and decided to unpack. Without an income, we learned to work with what we had (and what we found in the dumpster near our Chelsea apartment).
We spent the summer of 2011 moving furniture, painting the walls and purging the closet. We didn’t know if we’d fall in love with NYC, but we were on a mission to fall in love with our 470 square feet of it. And in the process, we realized how much we had to be thankful for, including a new appreciation for our lives as New Yorkers. How changing our environment changed our outlook was a story that we thought might inspire others, so in July of 2011, we started Meredith & Gwyneth, The New Yorkie.
Dumpster Dive makeovers and the incredible friends we made through this blog are how we fell in love with New York City. But more importantly, the trash-pile transformations and having readers cheering us on are what prepared us when broken-hearted, we had to leave it in December of 2012.
Our readers inspire us every day, and we hope you’ll find something here that inspires you. Aw..so sweet! I’m a mom, too, and have a daughter, and son, in your age bracket, and have a heart for what you’re doing to be independent. First time here, and after the rough day I had today (donated blood for the first time w/my daughter, and we both fainted), it does my heart good to read your blog, and be inspired by your creative juices.
